Jamie Mills, Assistant Principal at Global High School, brought the Global students of the month for November, December and January to be presented to the Rotary Club.

The student of the month for November 2017 is Joshua Garcia. He is the son of Maria E. Garcia and is a sophomore at Waxahachie Global High School.

Joshua has been active in the Interact Club, the high school Rotary Club, since he got to Global last year. He is a conscientious young man who is a good citizen. He is maintaining all A’s in his classes.

Joshua’s favorite community service work is the Hidden Miracles Respite Night held every first Saurday of the month. Respite Night is a chance for the caregivers of children with special needs to get a break and some much needed time to themselves while the students play with their kids.

In his free time Joshua is involved in fish breeding. He collects aquatic plants and enjoys gardening. He is also a fan of hiking. After high school he plans to become a chemical and molecular eigineer.

Tianyi Zhou is the December student of the month. She is the daughter of Jonathan and Hong Dyess. She is a junior at GHS who excels academically. She is on the A-honor roll. She earned third place at the Regional TSA competition for fashion design.

This is Tianyi’s third year in the Interact Club and she is the club treasurer this year. She spends numerous hours working at Hidden Miracles but also enjoys DEAR day and the Human Rights symposium held each spring.

In her spare time Tianyi enjoys reading and biking. She plans to attend Rice University.

Blair Deere is the GHS student of the month for January. She is the daughter of Brandon and Brandi Deere. She is a junior at Global High where she excels academically.

This is her second year in the Interact Club and she is a leader in the PRIDE Club as well. She is receiving the award because of her many dedicated service hours working at Hidden Miracles.

In her spare time Blair enjoys bicycling, dancing, costumes and makeup. In the future she plans to become a doctor.

It is an honor for Rotary to acknowledge such outstanding students as Joshua Garcia, Tianyi Zhou and Blaire Deere. They have been presented with a plaque with their names engraved on it. This plaque will hang in the halls of Global High School for many years to come.
