Rotarian Clyde Melick had the pleasure of introducing Waxahachie High School principal, Dr. Al Benskin, as a special guest.  Each month Rotary honors an outstanding student from each of our public high schools as Student of the Month.  Dr. Benskin had the honor of introducing the WHS Student of the Month for October, Mitchell Beddingfield.

Mitchell is a senior at Waxahachie High School.  He is president of the Theatre Department and has participated in over ten productions over the course of his high school career.

He is also president of the Debate Club of which he has been a member for three years.  He is in the top two percent of his class and he received Commended Status from the National Merit Scholar Organization.

He is the editor of his school’s online newspaper, The Arrow, where he has been writing for two years.  In addition, Mitchell is on the Literary Criticism, Headline Writing, Extemporaneous Speaking and One Act Play UIL teams and has been to state two years in a row.

Mitchell is currently working on his Eagle Scout project and he is involved in the Youth Group at the First Baptist Church here in Waxahachie.

He plans to attend the University of Texas to Study journalism in hopes of becoming an editor.  His parents, Travis and Shannon Beddingfield, have been crucial to his success in all of his endeavors.  Mitchell looks up to the example of his older brother, Coleman, and is motivated to set a good example for his younger sister, Claire Marie.

It is an honor for Rotary to acknowledge such an outstanding student as Mitchell Beddingfield.  A plaque with his name engraved on it will hang in the halls of Waxahachie High School for many years to come.
