In This week’s Rotary meeting, President Russell Clark had the pleasure of introducing Waxahachie High School principal, Dr. Al Benskin, as a special guest.  Each month Rotary honors an outstanding student from each of our public high schools as Student of the Month.  Dr. Benskin had the honor of introducing the WHS Student of the Month Award for January 2016 to senior Alyssa Hopson.

Alyssa, the daughter of Keith and Janna Hopson, is well deserving of this special honor.  Waxahachie High School and its staff are very proud of her accomplishments.

Being an avid fan of music, Alyssa is heavily involved in theatre, music theatre and varsity choir.  With her singing and acting talents, Alyssa is actively involved in the children’s music ministry of her church.

She participates in her favorite activity, Vacation Bible School every summer.
As a member of the group LIO (Live It Out), Alyssa puts her skills to work performing skits for the children.  She also leads children’s worship service.

Other community service hours come from annual mission trips and helping with school events through Student Council, which she is currently serving as Student Body Secretary.

Alyssa will be attending the University of Texas in Dallas in the fall.  She hopes to pursue a degree in Child Development.  Her greatest wish is to continue her music career, work with children and serve her Lord in her daily life.

It is an honor for Rotary to acknowledge such an outstanding student as Alyssa Hopson.  She was presented a plague with her name engraved on it which will hang in the halls of Waxahachie High School for many years to come.
