WISD Global High School Students of the Month

Rotarian Clyde Melick introduced special guest Principal Ken Lynch to the club. Mr. Lynch had the distinct pleasure of announcing the winner of November Student of the Month for Global High School, Trevor Burns. Trevor Burns, the son of Radonna Holmes and the grandson of Carolyn Holmes, is a sophomore at GHS. Trevor was introduced as being a conscientious young man, an excellent student and a good citizen. As an Interact member since the beginning of his freshman year, Trevor is very involved in all of the functions offering service above self in his club.

His favorite service opportunity is Hidden Miracles. Hidden Miracles is a community service opportunity for Interact students to offer a respite night for parents of children with special needs. These students become caregivers and companions to these children while their parents are given a break and some much needed time to themselves.

In his spare time, Trevor loves to play the guitar and create art. As a matter of fact, he would love to have a career involving both art and music. After high school, Trevor plans to continue his education at SAGU, where he will fulfill his dream of sharing his music and artistic abilities in his adult life.

Rotary would like to congratulate Trevor Burns for his excellence as a student and for his community service. It is with great pride that the club acknowledges him with a plaque of honor baring his name.

Mr. Lynch also had the pleasure of announcing Global High School’s Student of the Month for December, Emily Cook. Emily, the daughter of Roy and Susan Cook, is a junior at Global High. Mr. Mills stated that Emily was receiving the award for her many dedicated service hours to community projects during the first semester of the school year.

Emily, who serves as treasurer for her Interact Club, is heavily involved with all of the service opportunities the club has to offer. Her favorite activity is Hidden Miracles, which is a service offered to parents of mentally and physically challenged children. Interact students become caregivers one night a month to these children so parents can have a few hours to themselves.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys listening to music and reading, but her heart is in serving others, which she does in abundance. Besides her dedication to community activities, Emily is an excellent student. Her future plans are to continue her studies at the University of Texas at Tyler and become a pharmacist.

It is with great pride that the Rotary Club of Waxahachie presents a plaque of honor to Emily Cook, an outstanding student, which will hang in the halls of Global High for many years to come.
