Anjelica Solano, of the North Texas Tollway Authority, spoke to Waxahachie citizens this week about the many programs and infrastructure plans that the organization has currently. NTTA talked about the importance of having a TollTag in order to pay the lowest price to travel on regional toll roads and discussed its customer loyalty program and free roadside assistance that provides help to stranded customers on NTTA’s toll roads in the Dallas-FortWorth Metroplex.

Currently, the toll road system has over 5 million active TollTags. Only eight percent of toll users are ZipCash payers, which costs almost 50 percent more than the TollTag rates. NTTA processes 2.5 million in transactions daily. The use of the area’s roads is heavily increasing with the rate of growth to the DFW area. This has prompted the organization to currently expand several roads by adding an extra lane for traffic. TollTag accounts can be set up with a starting deposit of $20 or $40; and families may add up to three tags to their account. TollTags can be used on all toll roads in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas; as well as for parking and entry/exits to DFW International Airport and Love Field.

Though no toll road yet exists in Ellis County, Clyde Melick, Assistant Superintendent of Facilities for Waxahachie ISD, represents Ellis County on NTTA’s Contiguous County Advisory Board. The Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from the four founding counties: Tarrant, Dallas, Collin, and Denton. It also includes a Texas governor’s Appointee. Later in 2018, the 360 Tollway will extend into Ellis County to connect with Hwy 287. At this time, there is no plan to extend the 360 Tollway south to Hwy 67; but future plans could include the expansion.

One of the most surprising benefits of the NTTA system is that most motorists are unaware of the free roadside assistance. Motorists may dial #999 on their cell phones, or use the Tollmate app get help 24/7/365. The response time is usually in 10-12 minutes. Additionally, NTTA’s Roadside Safety Services vehicles will park behind the stranded vehicle to protect them from oncoming traffic. Some of their services include providing a gallon of gas, changing flat tires, jumping dead batteries, and more.
