Rotarian and Waxahachie High principal Dr. Al Benskin had the pleasure of introducing the WHS Student of the Month for October, Emma Cook.

Miss. Cook, the daughter of Trey and Joy Cook, is a member of the National Honor Society and ranks in the top ten in her class. She has received the George Washington History Scholarship and is a dedicated student.

When she is not busy with extracurricular activities or school work she volunteers with the Interact Club and at First Baptist Church as a part of the youth leadership team. Some of her favorite memories include organizing the 2017 See You at the Pole event and playing Taps for two years at the High School’s Memorial and Veteran’s Day presentations.

Though she was a member of the Technology Student Association for a year her primary focus is the band program. Emma has been a trumpet player in the wind ensemble, the highest level band at WHS, since she was a freshman. As brass section leader, Emma has helped the band earn the higghest rank at every UIL (University Scholastic League) competition: seventh at the state marching competition as well as third place her freshman year and first place her junior year.

Individually she has received the highest rank at the solo and ensemble competition each year. She has qualified for two years as an all-area jazz band player and is a TMEA all state band member. This fall she has already earned the title of marcher of the week and leader of the week.

It is an honor for Rotary to acknowledge such an outstanding student as Emma Cook. She was presented with a plaque with her name engraved on it which will hang in the halls of Waxahachie High School for many years to come.
